Rules for providing support

Lecturers

At CTU, lecturers are offered professional consultations and seminars focused on possible adjustments to teaching and assessment methods for students with special needs.

The obligation to provide individual study accommodations is based on the right to education. It is not the role of the lecturer or the university to assess whether a student can apply their knowledge in practice. The university is required to provide adequate conditions to students with special needs in order for them to be able to successfully meet academic requirements.

Rules for providing support

At CTU, the status of students and applicants with special needs and the rules for providing them with support are governed by the Methodological Guideline on Supporting Students with Special Needs at CTU and by the CTU Study and Examination Regulations, Article I, Paragraph 5, available in the Study-Related Policies section on the CTU website.

  • Individual study accommodations and adjustments are binding for all lecturers.
  • All accommodations provided or offered to students must not alter the content, scope or goals of a module, but may alter its form.
  • Accommodations differ across categories of students and may vary even within the same category.
  • Each adjustment is individually tailored to the current needs of the student following a professional assessment by the ELSA Centre staff.
  • If a student is not registered with the ELSA Centre, lecturers are not obliged to provide accommodations.
  • The ELSA Centre informs lecturers of accommodations at any time during the academic year.
  • Students may register with the ELSA Centre at any point during the semester until the start of the examination period.
  • Accommodations can also be newly issued for students who previously studied without using individual adjustments.
  • Adjustments cannot be requested retroactively.
  • The validity of accommodations is explicitly stated in the document—it is always valid for the current semester.
  • Lecturers are informed of a student’s adjustments via email.
  • Students are obliged to remind lecturers of their right to any study or assessment accommodations at least one week in advance. If they fail to do so, the lecturers are not required to provide the accommodations.
  • On the day of the exam, the student must present their accommodations document, either electronically or in printed form.
  • If, for organisational reasons, the lecturer cannot implement one or more of the adjustments, they must contact the staff of the ELSA Centre.
  • The official records of students with special needs at each faculty are administered by designated staff and academic office personnel. The documents and specific forms of accommodations can be accessed and viewed at the faculty’s study department.
